Hey Brett! Congratulations on winning the overall at the NPC Mr. Missouri. What, if any, changes are you going to make to your training for the North Americans? I gotta ask you, what prompted you to compete at the Missouri State? I saw you won the overall at the NPC Muscle Mayhem last May so aren’t you already qualified for national bodybuilding competition? Were you just “trophy hunting”?

Answer: Thank you for your question. First of all, I want to take this opportunity to thank my family and the 1st Phorm team for all of their support. I am so fortunate to have the backing of my fiancée Gillian who has competed herself and knows the rigors of contest [...]

Unconventional Moves for Boulder Shoulders
by Phorm Athlete, Brett Becker on Jul 12, 2010, under Bodybuilding Contest Prep
Weekly shoulder training is essential for a competitive bodybuilder. Early in my competitive career, I attacked shoulders with a vengeance every time I trained them. As I progressed, I got away from training them as I should, knowing that my chest workouts were working my delts as well. But let me tell [...]

Let The Games Begin: Contest Prep for the IFBB North Americans
by Phorm Athlete, Brett Becker on Jun 23, 2010, under Bodybuilding Contest Prep
I’m now three weeks into my contest prep for the IFBB North Americans in Cleveland, Ohio on September 3rd and 4th. As I have mentioned previously, this year I decided to go back to good friend of mine, Ronnie, who I worked with from 2001-2005. After a few years of doing my own diet [...]

Don’t Talk to Me, I’m Dieting
by Phorm Athlete, Brett Becker on Jun 03, 2010, under Becker Built
I just returned on Saturday from a week in Mexico with Gillian and some friends of ours. We had a blast! Sunday marked the initiation of the pre-contest diet phase for my next show: the IFBB North Americans, September 3rd in Cleveland Ohio. I’m very grateful to have overcome an almost career ending [...]

1st Phorm Bodybuilding Transformation: The Squirrel Project
by Phorm Athlete, Brett Becker on May 12, 2010, under Diet Plans
I recently completed a 1st Phorm bodybuilding transformation project, and it was a major success. The subject was a friend of mine by the name of Jerry, also known as: “the squirrel”. You may wonder how a bodybuilder like Jerry would end up with a nickname such as this. Jerry got this nickname a few [...]

Hey Brett. The other day I heard someone refer to you as “Midwest Chest”. How did you get that nickname? I would love to develop great pecs and although my upper body training is a priority, I am not seeing the gains I want. What is the secret to your “Midwest chest”?
by Phorm Athlete, Brett Becker on Apr 22, 2010, under Becker Built
I got the nickname “Midwest Chest” a few years ago, when I filmed a video with MostMuscular.com titled “Midwest Chest” that featured my chest training. These are principles I continue to use in my chest training today. When I was new to lifting, like many newcomers I trained my chest 2-3 times a [...]

Hey Brett. I’m a 20 year old college student and a competitive bodybuilder. At my last show, I won my class and qualified for a National event. I’m planning to take the next semester of school off so that I can focus on my training for Nationals. People around me think that I have what it takes to become a pro and my trainer told me that I’m “the next big thing”. Studying for school and working part time keeps me busy enough but I have found it really difficult to prep food for my diet and train on top of all that. I live with my parents and they really don’t want me to take a break from school but I don’t want to give up on my dream. What do you think?
by Phorm Athlete, Brett Becker on Mar 29, 2010, under Becker Built
Dear Next Best Thing…yeah, that’s one I haven’t heard before. You may not want to hear this, but I applaud your parents. You would be an idiot to leave school for what you call a semester, because once you hit the weights in lieu of the books, you are very unlikely to return [...]
