What is Glycemic Index and Glycemic Load and Why Should I Care?

by Dr. Chad Kerksick on May 19, 2010, under Supplement Science

This is an interesting question and one that has relevance to most individuals. It’s especially interesting considering the overload of questions and discussion about protein relative to sports nutrition or supplementation. Upon considering the role of carbohydrate as a fuel source throughout any form of intense exercise, both endurance and resistance athletes should care [...]

1st Phorm Bodybuilding Transformation: The Squirrel Project

by Phorm Athlete, Brett Becker on May 12, 2010, under Diet Plans

I recently completed a 1st Phorm bodybuilding transformation project, and it was a major success. The subject was a friend of mine by the name of Jerry, also known as: “the squirrel”.   You may wonder how a bodybuilder like Jerry would end up with a nickname such as this. Jerry got this nickname a few [...]

Hey Brett, my name is Jeff. I’m 25 years old and I’ve been weight training since high school. Lately I’ve gotten really serious with my training and people at the gym keep telling me I need to compete. It’s something I think I want to do, but don’t know where to start.

by Phorm Athlete, Brett Becker on Jan 29, 2010, under Customer Q & A

That is a question I get a lot from guys your age. First thing you need to do, if you haven’t already, is attend a bodybuilding show. Ask around your gym about what shows are coming up in the area. It’s a good idea to go to a bodybuilding competition as a spectator [...]

I read on your blog that Ignition/Phormula-1 should not be used directly after a cardio workout. Why is this? I do a lot of running and I am trying to lose some weight. I do some lifting but I am really just trying to be lean and not looking to put on a lot of muscle. I guess my basic question is how should I be using Ignition/Phormula-1 most effectively if I do mostly cardio workouts?

by Chairman & CEO, Andrew Frisella on Jan 21, 2010, under Customer Q & A

First off, if you are looking at getting lean, putting on muscle should be a priority not an afterthought. If you want to be lean and you do just cardio you aren’t going to get there. Cardio burns both muscle and fat, not just fat like most people think. If you aren’t training your muscles [...]

Becker Built Off Season Bodybuilding Diet

by Phorm Athlete, Brett Becker on Nov 23, 2009, under Diet Plans

Injury Update:
At almost 8 weeks post-injury, I would estimate that I am functioning around 70%. Training is going pretty well and I’m getting into the gym at least 4 days a week. At this point, I am just finding it hard to hit upper body movements on consecutive days. I won’t start [...]

Can I just use Phormula-1 and not Ignition post-workout and get proper recovery?

by Chairman & CEO, Andrew Frisella on Nov 06, 2009, under Customer Q & A

Sure, you can. You can do whatever you want, this is America! You can brush your teeth with motor oil. You can fix a hole in your roof with duct tape. You could even mow your yard with your finger nail clippers. However, these activities wouldn’t make much sense and neither would using Phormula-1 without [...]

I am on a pretty strict budget. Can I just use Ignition to replenish my glycogen stores and get the same results as if I would take it with a Phormula-1?

by Chairman & CEO, Andrew Frisella on Nov 05, 2009, under Customer Q & A

This is a very common question, believe it or not, people always ask which one they should take and the answer is…unequivocally, undeniably, no question about it…BOTH! I always tell people the same thing: It’s like going to buy a brand new car and the salesman asks you if you need tires or a steering [...]

I have been using Level-1 and I love it! Can I use it with Ignition post-workout instead of Phormula-1 and get same results?

by Chairman & CEO, Andrew Frisella on Nov 04, 2009, under Customer Q & A

A premium quality Low Temperature Processed protein blend such as Level-1 is designed to keep you anabolic by keeping blood amino levels high for sustained periods of time throughout the day. This means Level-1 will take several hours to digest completely. The insulin spike form Ignition happens almost instantly and peaks after just 30 minutes. [...]

I’m trying to lose weight. If I use Ignition, is it going to make me fatter?

by Chairman & CEO, Andrew Frisella on Nov 03, 2009, under Customer Q & A

Ignition will not and cannot make you fat if used correctly. In fact, if used correctly post-weight training (Ignition should not be used post-cardio for someone trying to lose body fat) it will actually cause you to burn fat faster. Contrary to what you might have read about carbs being the devil, it’s just not [...]

I was told by a guy at the gym that I can use white bread post workout because it’s cheaper and get the same result as I would with Ignition/Phormula-1.

by Chairman & CEO, Andrew Frisella on Nov 01, 2009, under Customer Q & A

Let me take a wild guess and try to describe the character who is giving you this information; It’s the over the hill guy at your gym who “used” to compete on the “semi-pro” circuit back when bodybuilding was “pure”. He probably wears a stringer tank and parachute pants, with a fanny pack. He dead [...]
