IGNITION™
It’s no mystery that quality muscle gains start with your post-workout nutrition. What you put into your body immediately after intense exercise can make or break your results. Ignition was designed to address the most overlooked component of proper post workout nutrition— replenishing your glycogen stores and spiking your insulin for maximum protein and nutrient assimilation.
You’ve been hearing for years to drink protein immediately after your workout, but that’s only part of the story! The truth is that protein post workout is only a small component of what your body needs for proper recovery and is not even its top priority when you walk out of the gym. Taking a protein shake on its own is better than taking nothing at all, but at 1st Phorm® we are about getting you the best possible results, not the “better than nothing” results. Flying solo with protein only after a workout means that your body will very slowly digest this protein, convert most of it into glucose and push it into the cell as glycogen. That translates into a lot of wasted time, effort, and money on your part and leaves no protein in the end to build and repair with since it has all been converted into glycogen. The time and effort that your body could be recovering or building muscle is spent with remedial digestive tasks; money you’ve spent on proteins is essentially wasted in the conversion process. In addition to a whey isolate, you should always consume a fast absorbing carbohydrate that spikes your insulin levels to replenish glycogen stores and take full advantage of the proteins you are taking.
Glycogen is your body’s carbohydrate stores that serve essentially as your on-board battery. Training with weights severely depletes your glycogen stores and drains the battery. We all know how pumped we get in the gym and how great we feel when we walk out, but we all also know about that “flat” feeling we get about an hour later after the pump wears off. That “flat” feeling is from a lack of glycogen in the muscle – you used it all up at the gym and your body is scrambling to take every-thing you throw at it to fill them back up again. Your body is programmed to address this issue first when you walk out of the gym. It does not care about building muscle or burning fat—its focus is on charging that battery back-up. Building muscle and burning fat aren’t essential for survival, having the proper amount of glycogen on-board is. Your body is programmed for survival first and that’s what it's going to take care of, replenishing glycogen. Until that’s taken care of you can forget about your body repairing and rebuilding muscle. Ignition is pure dexanhydrous glucose. There is not a form of carbohydrates anywhere known to man that is more pure or refined or that can deliver glycogen directly to the muscles any faster. It literally will ignite muscle growth by replenishing your glycogen stores immediately and spiking your insulin levels to allow maximum protein assimilation. In a nutshell, it creates an optimal environment for recovery and protein synthesis.
Insulin is a hormone in your body and if you harness it’s power correctly and at the right times, it will lead to explosive muscle growth. Insulin is, for all intents and purposes, the key that unlocks your cell to allow proteins into it. When an insulin spike occurs, the muscle cell doors open to allow your body to absorb protein. In doing so you are able to retain and utilize a much higher percentage of protein by pushing it straight into the muscle cell for conversion.
Unlike other simple or fast absorbing carbohydrate sources such as sucrose, fructose, and even waxy maize starch that offer little to no insulin response, Ignition actually delivers pure dexanhydrous glucose to the cell which offers an insulin spike up to 6X greater than these other sugars. One serving of Ignition delivers 46 grams of pure dexanhydrous glucose directly to the muscle cell for an insulin spike unsurpassed by any other product or source. Ignition is also designed to bypass liver storage in order to hit your muscles immediately. Other sugars must be collected in the liver first and then be distributed slowly throughout the body from there, this can take several hours. Ignition saves valuable time and gets the body in recovery mode instantly!
Don’t waste your money on expensive proteins just for your body to inefficiently waste them by converting them into glycogen slowly over time. Always stack Ignition with your high quality hydrolyzed whey isolate post workout. The very first time you take Ignition you will notice the immediate effects of increased energy, increased muscle stamina, huge pumps and increased mental alertness. Ignition allows you to do something no other product does: Buy time. When you stack Ignition with a high quality hydrolyzed whey isolate immediately after your training, you are buying muscle-building time. By shortening your recovery time, you are adding muscle-building time to your day, in fact, in many cases up to several hours a day. Over the course of a year it adds up…for a person who just casually trains 3X a week it tallies up to almost a month of extra muscle building time you didn’t have before.
Ignition lives up to its name by igniting the anabolic growth process in your body. You will see and feel the results in a matter of days and in no time, you’ll be filling out your shirtsleeves with incredible pumps!*

Even if you are cutting for a competition, proper recovery from your weight training will still be necessary and beneficial to your fat loss goals. While throughout the rest of the day you might minimize or eliminate your carb and sugar intake, after you train, it will still be essential to provide your body with the appropriate amount of glucose to replenish glycogen stores for recovery from training. This will be essential to keeping your muscles full and hard, but more importantly to triggering your body out of a catabolic state post-workout and into and anabolic state. This helps grow new muscle or at the very least helps preserve it during dieting and in turn creates for the highest possible metabolism. More calories burned generally equates to more fat loss.

Hydrolyzed isolate protein fractions are exposed to natural enzymes in the manufacturing process and are more easily digested and absorbed by the system. Using Ignition along with a product that contains hydrolyzed whey protein isolate fractions, such as Phormula-1® , is important from a nutrient timing standpoint. It will allow your body to assimilate the maximum amount of amino acids into your muscles triggering an extremely anabolic response immediately post workout. Using just a standard isolate, concentrate, or blend protein will not be as effective, because those proteins are not as efficiently assimilated into your system. Because those protein sources are slower assimilating, a large portion of the protein would not yet be available when the insulin spike occurs from your Ignition, which is one of the largest benefits of taking Ignition. The insulin spike alone will stop your body from breaking down more muscle, which is a huge benefit in it self, but also insulin is a powerful storage hormone that will force amino acids from Phormula-1 into your damaged and stressed muscles immediately. Having a protein source readily available in the bloodstream will be key to igniting (where the name Ignition came from) the recovery process. The most effective and readily available protein source for this job is Phormula-1, which is designed specifically for this purpose in mind.

Level-1 is a protein blend and it is more slowly assimilated into the blood stream providing a steady feed of amino acids to the bloodstream. Using Level-1 as a meal replacement or through out the day this is definitely ideal, however, after you train, you will want to provide your body with a rapid assimilating protein source, such as Phormula-1, that dumps a large amount of aminos into your bloodstream at one time. That is what a Phormula-1 does with its hydrolyzed whey protein isolate fractions. Both Level-1 and Phormula-1 have their own unique function and purpose. Using the right one is simply a case of using the right tool for the job.

It certainly is. Not only is it ok, its ideal! Mixing a ¼ - ½ scoop of Ignition with about a ½ - 1 scoop of Phormula-1 about 20 minutes before intense training makes an excellent pre-workout. As opposed to many pre-workouts that pump your body full of caffeine or stimulants, Ignition + Phormula-1 would actually prime your body for actual muscle growth by stimulating muscle protein synthesis (the key to real muscle growth) and giving your body biologically available nutrients to assist you during training.
For more in depth answer check out this Q&A from our blog on the same topic: I read on your blog that Ignition/Phormula-1 should not be used directly after a cardio workout. Why is this? I do a lot of running and I am trying to lose some weight. I do some lifting but I am really just trying to be lean and not looking to put on a lot of muscle. I guess my basic question is how should I be using Ignition/Phormula-1 most effectively if I do mostly cardio workouts?
Ignition is made solely of dexanhydrous glucose crystals with an added vitamin blend. On a nutrition panel, dexanhydrous glucose crystals will show up as sugars. In an over simplified explanation, that's exactly what they are. However, if you look a little deeper you will come to understand why this exact type of sugar in Ignition is so beneficial to your goals. Dexanhydrous glucose crystals are a rapidly absorbing, highly refined monosaccharide that is readily dissolvable in water. It is pure glucose, and since your body breaks all other carbohydrates into glucose before using them in the body it only makes sense, in a pre and post resistance training setting, to give your body carbohydrates in the exact form its going to use them so no additional processes are needed for use. Dexanhydrous glucose is the fastest absorbing sugar that exists…no exceptions. As opposed to table sugar, a disaccharide, Ignition creates a much stronger insulin response, absorbs much faster and helps your body recover much quicker. While on the nutrition label, it is classified as a sugar … the Ignition is far from you typical table sugar!

The amount of Ignition that you use post workout is all dependant on how hard you train that day. For your standard workout, one scoop of Ignition will be sufficient for glycogen replenishment and recovery. On days where you train heavy, leg day for example, you might want to increase your dosage of Ignition to 1 ¼ scoop or 1 ½ scoops. You will find your optimal dose through trial and error. The harder you train, the more glycogen you will deplete and therefore the more glycogen that you need to replenish. Increasing or decreasing the Ignition dose to account intensity or volume levels will help optimize and speed up recovery. On days where you do cardio for fat loss, Ignition will not be needed at all because you are not utilizing much glycogen in cardio training. Endurance training is a different animal all together.

Increasing your protein grams will not effectively offset or substitute as Ignition. The two products are completely different macro-nutrients with completely different unique functions in the human body. Using additional protein grams in lieu of Ignition for glycogen replenishment offers a less than ideal solution for post workout. Even while on a low-carb diet, it is still important for a variety of reasons (proper muscle recovery, the prevention of muscle wasting, muscular energy for training, maintenance of a elevated metabolism…etc) that you maintain ample muscle glycogen stores. Ignition with Phormula-1 will help get your glycogen levels back up right after training and get your body back into an anabolic state.
