We both compete in the NPC bikini division. In bikini the judges look for sculpted, lean bodies without too much muscle. I (Michelle) originally started competing because I love a challenge! Little did I know it would turn into a family affair when Kristie began to take notice and decided to join me!
Since we were young we have both very active in sports and training. I (Kristie) think I have actually worked out since I was 9 years old, as I ran in the Junior Olympics… so it feel like forever! But when it comes to competing, Michelle walked on stage for the first time in 2001 after seeing a fitness competition on TV. I joined her a few years later. We’ve both been hooked ever since!
We both train TwinFitness in Overland Park, Kansas, a personal training gym we started together 2003.
Kristie: My favorite is Leg/glutes…because in Bikini it’s all about the glutes baby!
Michelle: I love training shoulder because I never had ANY shoulders before I started lifting. Now I am proud to say I actually have some shoulders!
We can both honestly say that while our sport is very important to us, and it’s even part of our ‘day-jobs’ as trainers/owners of TwinFitness… it’s our families that are the most important piece of the puzzle! We work hard to maintain a life balance that includes family activities, play-time with our kids and even some peace and quite relaxation (when we can find time!). It’s not always easy to be a business owner, a competitor and a mom, and that’s why it’s so important to both of us to make family priority #1.
Michelle: I want people to know that I am a ‘real’ person! I have a life just like everyone else does; 2 daughters, a husband and 2 dogs and business to run. I can fully relate to the struggles and trials you’re going through! I want moms out there to know that when you invest in yourself you will be happier and make everyone around you happy. It all starts with the mind set you put towards ANYTHING you do.
Kristie: I’m not your typical trainer… I believe in different philosophies than most! I always remind my clients that life happens and it always will. We must all learn that life requires flexibility, and you have to sometimes make adjustments as change comes your way.
Kristie: Dedicated! I’m dedicated to things in my live that are important to me... my family, job and training.
Michelle: WOW…I think…Genuine! I am as real as you get. I am happy with who I am. I try to live everyday to its fullest.
Kristie: Pizza
Michelle: Pizza (we’re twins after all!!)
Kristie: Re-learning time management skills with my kids! I have always been GREAT at time management and lead a very organized life…but when kids came along I had to become EVEN MORE organized! One thing I can say “I get a lot done in the day”!
Michelle: This is a hard one. At a young age my dad taught me that everything happens for a reason and whatever comes your way learn from it and move on.
Kristie: Caring for others.
Michelle: Honesty and humor.
Kristie: Consistency over time.
Michelle: You can’t out exercise a bad diet.
Kristie: Other than the day I gave birth to my twin daughters, I’d have to say winning my IFBB Pro card!
Michelle: Some of my happiest memories are the day I got married and the birth of my 2 daughters!
Kristie: I have great internal drive…so I would have to say myself! I set out every day to impress MY SELF.
Michelle: My internal drive! I have been like this since I was a kid. I remember my sister and I timing each other running around the block or racing down the street and getting mad if she beat me. I have always been self motivated but what keeps me going these days is knowing that I have achieved something for myself, and that too continues to motivate me!
(Again… surprise surprise we say the same thing!)
Kristie: I don’t think I could handle something terrible happening to my family…without them I would have nothing.
Michelle: I fear something happening to me, and I wouldn’t be here for my kids and husband!
Kristie: I am a country girl and LOVE to ride horses!
Michelle: I love to ride horses and have even raced them in rodeos!
(Guess we could have just answered that together!)
